Welcome to Year 6!
Children are entering the final stage of Key Stage 2 as the start Year 6. Children will be consolidating and extending the skills they have learned across the Key Stage and in the month of May most children will sit a range of national assessments called SATs, standard assessment tests. These are a series of tests in Reading, Grammar and Mathematics. Writing is teacher assessed and a portfolio is built up across the year and continued until the end of June.
To enable your child to feel as prepared as possible for these as well as embarking on their secondary schools, we provide a range of support during this year:
- 3 experienced teachers for Maths and English lessons, providing personalised lessons and smaller class sizes
- Interventions to help children reach their potential
- Revision books in keeping with the new curriculum to be completed both in school and at home
- SATs afterschool clubs commencing from March onwards
We also offer a SATs information evening for parents and children in January so that you are fully engaged with this important year.
SATs week: 13th-16th May 2019 (it is imperative that your child is in school in the May and June months to prepare them fully for their SATs week and also continue our writing portfolios)
More detailed information is available on Key Stage 2 SATs is available here. Parents are invited in to school during the spring term for the most up to date national guidance.
We aim to ensure that all of our children are ready and confident as they reach the end of year 6 and prepared for their transition to secondary school and the start of Key Stage 3, in Year 7. Children begin term learning about World War II, which includes a trip to Duxford Imperial Museum. They are given the opportunity to take part in the Year 6 production in July and finally to celebrate their time at All Saints there is a Leavers service, at the end of the summer term, which all Year 6 and their families are invited to so that we thank them for their contribution to our school family and wish them well for the next step in their learning journey.
We hope in this section of our website that you will find everything that you need to support your child during the year but if you think that there is anything missing - please let us know via the school office!
