Welcome to Year 2!

As your child moves into Year 2 they are in the final year of the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum. In May-June the children are assessed against the Key Stage 1 objectives using national materials published each year and marked by teachers in the school. We do not refer to these as ‘tests’ instead we encourage the children to view these as ‘Secret Agent Training’ see also link to section on Key Stage 1 SATS. These assessments are shared in small groups with a teacher who is familiar to the child which ensures that children are relaxed and are able to evidence their best. There will be a SATs information evening in the Spring term which will give you the latest national guidance. Each child’s SATs results will be included in their end of year annual report.

For those children that did not meet the national threshold for the phonics assessment in Year 1 they will be screened again in June but in a similarly low key way.
